Dannielle Khan took two victories for the Great Britain Cycling Team at the opening weekend of the Revolution series this weekend while team mate Joe Truman was second in the men’s sprint omnium.

The Manchester event was attended by some of Team GB’s 2016 Olympic champions, including Owain Doull, Ed Clancy, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker, riding in their club colours.

Clancy partnered with teammate Jon Mould to put his domestic team JLT Condor on top of the general classification.

Khan, 21, rode to victory in both the elimination scratch race and the flying lap.

Her fellow Great Britain riders Emily Kay and Abbie Dentus also put in strong performances across the many endurance disciplines, with Kay recording a third-place finish in the points race.

Truman’s second place finish in the sprint omnium was the top male performance for the Great Britain Cycling Team; fellow riders Jack Carlin, Alex Joliffe, Hamish Turnbull, Ryan Hutchinson and Lewis Stewart placed fifth to ninth respectively.

JLT Condor, who had an excellent season on the road, won the overall competition at round one in Manchester, and established a dominant position over nearest rivals Team Wiggins.

Clancy missed the whole season due to a potentially career-ending back injury that left his Olympic hopes in doubt last year.

Ed Clancy

“It’s my first Revolution in ages; I didn’t race in a single one last year,” he said.

“It’s good to be back, I really miss this place and I miss the series.”

In reference to the Rio Olympic Games, Clancy explained: “This is a lot different; the team-pursuit is such a clinical organised event and then here [at the Revolution Series] you have the Madison elimination race, which is just absolute chaos, proper bike racing.

“There isn’t that stress or pressure that fills you before the team pursuit, you just get on your bike and ride.”

The win meant that old rivalries between the two teams were reignited after Team Wiggins’ outstanding overall series win last season.

Owain Doull, Clancy’s Olympic team pursuit teammate won the elimination scratch race and the points race in the opening round of the series.

Olympians return to Manchester

Amalie Dideriksen was outstanding across the new women’s elite championship for team Voxwomen.

The Danish rider won two events and had two second place finishes, helping her team to the top of the overall standings after the first round them at the top of the general classification.

Jim Brown won three out of three races riding for Maloja Pushbikers to lead the boys HOY Future Stars competition after round one, while the girl’s winner was Ellie Russell riding for Revolution All Stars.

The next round of the Revolution Series is in Glasgow on 8 October.
