We spend a day with British Cycling’s Apprentice BMX riders as they take part in a session at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

The Apprentices, aged 13-16, are part of British Cycling’s Rider Route - helping the most promising riders become the stars of world and Olympic cycling.

Riders get access to high quality training under the guidance of expert Great Britain Cycling Team coaches and are based across the country.

Apprentices learn event-specific skills and race tactics, the ability to work longer and at a higher intensity, how to manage their own development, and the training and competition habits required for success.

After the Apprentice level, riders can move on to the British Cycling Junior Academy, then Senior Academy and eventually the Podium programme.
