Over 35,000 tickets for the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in London have now been sold, as fans rush to book their place at Britain’s premier international sporting event of 2016.
Tickets for the championships, which will see Great Britain’s track stars return to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue from Wednesday 2 to Sunday 6 March 2016, went on general sale yesterday (Tuesday 12 May) and tickets for most of the weekend sessions were snapped up in record time.
However, tickets are still available for the four remaining sessions where gold medals will be awarded. With interest high, the event at Lee Valley VeloPark is likely to become the best ever attended track world championships.
British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, Jonny Clay, said: “We have been astounded by the early interest in ticket sales and are delighted to see that our riders will be given a full backing with many of the sessions heading for sell-out.
“However, there are still plenty of tickets available with great racing and gold medals set to be decided on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“I’m hopeful that these sessions will sell out soon as the British sporting public take their chance to join the Great Britain Cycling Team at this iconic venue, before representing the nation at Rio 2016.”
For cycling and sports fans alike, this is the chance to watch history made and experience the famous velodrome roar which lifted British riders to an amazing nine Olympic medals in 2012.
On Wednesday, the spectacular men’s and women’s team sprints will take place, plus the women’s individual pursuit, in which Joanna Rowsell was a winner in 2014.
While four titles are up for grabs on Thursday, including the men’s team pursuit, which is one of the highlights of any world championships. Friday afternoon will see the men’s kilometre time trial crowned.
Tickets for qualifying sessions are also still available and prices start from £15 for adults and £10 for under 16s with student and over 60s discounts being offered on weekday sessions.
