Great Britain Cycling Team’s Joe Fry survived the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix Juniors to take an excellent 10th place in the 13th edition of the race on Sunday.

The 18-year-old British Cycling Olympic Development Programme rider entered the famous Roubaix Velodrome in a group of 12 riders - behind the lead group of three - and crossed the line 33 seconds back from Dutch winner Bram Welten.

Pascal Eenkhoorn completed a 1-2 for the Netherlands with Belgium’s Stan Dewulf in third.

Fry’s teammates Matt Bostock, Nathan Draper, Ethan Hayter, Joe Holt and Joey Walker all impressed and completed the 111km parcours, which included 16 cobbled sectors that feature in the Monument.

Among those present was the category-five Mons-en-Pevele and Carrefour de l’Arbre sections.

Draper ended the race in 40th, Holt 44th, Bostock 46th, Hayter 53rd and Walker 55th as only 63 riders completed the opening round of the 2015 UCI Juniors Nations’ Cup.

"Joe Fry had a really good ride, he rode in the front group the whole day," said Olympic Development Program Coach Brian Stephens.

"I said to Joe ‘are you happy with the ride’ and he said ‘yes’. I said ‘did you learn anything?’ and he said ‘yes a lot’ and that’s the main reason we are here."

Hayter, winner of the opening round of the British Cycling Junior Road Series, was caught behind a crash forcing the 16-year-old to chase back.

But his race was effectively ended when his chain became tangled around his rear derailleur and he lost further time during a bike change.

A mechanical also disrupted Draper while Bostock, Holt and Walker were on the wrong side of the split before the podium spots were decided when Welten, Eenkhoorn and Dewulf attacked in the final 15km.

"They operated well as a team which was one of our focuses today - to get some teamwork going and be looking out for each other," Stephens added.
