Tre Whyte has outlined his ambitions for 2015 – and that includes reaching his first UCI BMX Supercross World Cup final.

Currently training as part of the British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme at Manchester’s National Cycling Centre, Whyte believes that he’s in the best place to achieve his goal.

“Things have got a lot smarter” Whyte said, when analysing the progression of the squads training methods since he joined Talent Team in 2008.

“It has made it easy for us to grow as athletes. And the facility obviously has just made everything so much easier, we can train when we need to every time.

“So all of that put together is helping us, plus us pushing each other and us doing the right thing is all going to help. So I feel that now is the best time to be here.”

Whyte trains alongside world cup champion Liam Phillips and Kyle Evans, and with all three making appearances at world-level finals in 2014 the motivation for each training session drives each athlete to greater success.

“You try to focus on yourself but when you’re on the gate with the likes of Liam and Kyle you still want to be getting out quick so it’s always a push.

“Me and Kyle have been racing each other since we were 12 so we’re always motivating each other.”

Despite such a vibrant atmosphere, Whyte spoke of a lacklustre start to 2014, before going on to reach his first international final at the world championships in Rotterdam and winning bronze.

“I started off the year quite bad, I wasn’t doing what I was expected to do for myself, or even target-wise on the programme. And then toward the end of the year it got a bit better, after making the worlds main.”

Whyte is hoping to continue that momentum into 2015, the first world cup in Manchester and he is already working on specific areas to reach his goals.

“Personally I want to get a bit bigger and stronger to get out of the start quicker, into the first turn and give myself the best opportunity to win the race.

“Last year with only making the one world final, I need to be a bit realistic and say I got there, but I need to do it consistently.

"So my targets for this year is are to make a couple of world cup finals, obviously world main again and podium at Europe as much as I can. Obviously the world cups are a big level so I want to be making finals for this year and then hopefully progress onto the year after, so we’ll see how it goes.”
