The Culloden Cycle Challenge offers a testing but non-competitive end of season ride on quiet roads through spectacular Highland countryside past historic towns and renowned heritage landmarks. Available in two strengths, you can choose between the Wee Battle (42 miles/2200ft of climbing) and the Big Battle (85 miles/3340ft of climbing). And it’s all in a good cause as the North of Scotland Cycling Association will make a significant donation from each entry towards funds for the building of a new Velodrome and safe Cycling Park available to riders of all ages and abilities here in the Highlands.
Ride HQ is Culloden Academy, just 2.5 miles from the start/finish area at Culloden Battlefield. Free carparking, registration, changing & shower facilities plus hot food when you return your ride number and timing transponder at the end. We’ll be available for signing-in and information from 8.30am. Big Battle participants will start in groups of 20 riders at 2 minute intervals from 10.00am. Wee Battle riders get underway from 10.30am. There will be friendly marshals, generous signage, motorcycle outriders, bike mechanics and a following broom wagon if it all gets too much. Plus food & drinks, toilets and medics at the Ferness and Grantown on Spey pitstops. Event times and certificates of completion will be available online.
Don’t delay, the closing date is Saturday 5 October 2013, and the first 250 valid entries will be accepted. A consent form signed by a parent/guardian will be required for entrants under the age of 18 and riders must be age 16 or above. Fees are £30 for the Big battle, £20 for the Wee one.

With less than a week to go you may be interested in your fellow Battlers. Well just over half are aged 23-44. There are just nine under-23's and nine 65+. Women make up almost 40% of the Wee Battle field and almost one quarter of all sportive entrants to date. Riders from 22 different clubs are involved with the largest contingents from East Sutherland Wheelers (21), Moray Firth CC (12), Deveron CC (11) and City of Inverness CC (11). However, non-Club members still comprise the majority of riders (54%). Less than 40% of entrants are affiliated with British Cycling. One quarter live outwith the North of Scotland region with over 30 coming from Aberdeen & District alone. Everyone welcome and thank you for entering the Culloden Cycle Challenge.
Online entry for both Battle rides has closed. A small number of ride places remain and will be allocated at the Event Organiser's discretion. If you wish to apply for one of these please send an email as soon as possible to -
stating clearly which ride you are interested in. Further details will then be forwarded to you.
Just seven days remain to get your online entry in for the Culloden Cycle Challenge. More than half the available places have already been snapped up. Closing date : midnight, Saturday, 5 October.
ENTRY TO DATE

Almost 80% of riders so far have chosen the longer Big Battle ride. A good entry of women riders is already apparent (25%) and particularly so amongst those opting for the Wee Battle route (62%). We’re still waiting for our first under-23 participant, with almost 60% of riders entered so far being aged 43-62. Less than half of all entrants are members of British Cycling, although 57% are showing a cycling club affiliation. The strongest club representations to date are Deveron CC (7), East Sutherland Wheelers (6) and City of Inverness CC (4). Online entry closes on 5 October 2013 and its ‘first come, first-served’.
