Event Overview

Welcome to "101" - The "Sportive" from Walden Velo.

Building on the success of 2013, we're back for our second annual Sportive in support of the Inured Soldiers Fund -  Carver Barracks, Wimbish, nr Saffron Walden, Essex.

For boththe 101 and 33 Engineer Regiments.

and this year we're going deliver even more for you - our rider!

Four Counties, three feed stations*, two wheels and one rider - you!

This Sportive is different. Not only as we've designed it for you, but we've listened to everything that our riders have told us from 2013.

We've tweaked a few things and hopefully added even more value to give you and your colleagues a great day out with us.

Covering four Counties and well over 2000 metres of climbing for the Epic distance, this Sportive has been specifically designed for you, "the rider" and to build on 2013 we're going to give you a choice - you can either ride 75 miles or take on the "101" with one or two tweaks to give you an even better ride!

We'll direct you through some of the prettiest villages in Essex and Suffolk as you head out East from Saffron Walden out towards Thaxted, Shalford, Sible Hedingham and towards Long Melford.

This year, you'll turn west back through rolling quiet Suffolk roads and countryside, back through the very North edges of Essex, past historic Spains Hall, with one of the eldest drop windows in Europe before heading North to pick up some more hills onto our second feed station and then towards Saffron Walden.

For the rider looking to extend their Sportive beyond that standard 60 miles, you'll return through this beautiful Market Town and wind your way back to the fantastic facilities at Carver Barracks to enjoy a great choice of hot pasta dishes, flapjack and drinks - all included in your entry fee!

For the Rider taking on the Epic "101", don't get too excited yet, because just as you head through this beautiful market town, we'll direct you out towards some rolling roads and vistas of the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire borders before a welcome return to Essex and a final cheeky little set of "combinations" to finish.

One thing is guaranteed and that is you will not stop pedalling all day!

Time for this event is strictly set to 10 hours maximum.

There are two feed stations on route (which will be well stocked with gels, energy bars, water, bananas) and  we look forward to welcoming you back to "base" where we reckon that you will have earned that great hoice of several hot pasts dishes and flapjack provided by by our hosts - which means great flavour and plenty of it!

Following on from the success of 2013, we're going to keep the chip timing and it will also send you a text to your mobile with your ride time when you cross that finish line!

Our unique facility also includes safe "offroad" parking, changing and showering facilities too.

In addition to this, not only should you get a great ride, but you'll be supporting our  choosen Charity too, the "Injured Soldiers Fund" of the  33 & 101 Engineers and all the soldiers at Carver Barracks.

So come on, challenge yourself and enter so that you when you cross that finish line you can say to yourself, your friends, your family ..
