Event Overview

It’s back – bigger than ever - The 5 Hills Challenge and Family Fun Ride – Sunday 7th July 2013.

Following on from the huge success of last year’s inaugural 5 Hills Challenge and Family Fun Ride - Beckenham Rugby Cyclists are proud to announce their second annual Sportive. Last year we had 90 riders complete the hills challenges and over 50 complete the family ride. This year, it is going to be BIGGER and STEEPER!

The format of this year’s event has changed and we have dispensed with the 3 Hills route and in line with most Sportives, we have adopted the following two options:-

1.       Standard 5 Hills Route – Circa 60 K

2.       Epic 5 Hills Route - Circa 100K

The exact routes will be formally released two weeks before the event.

One other change we have this year is that Entries will all be done on line as follows:-

·         Go to - www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=1071

·         Click on “ENTER ONLINE”

·         Following the instructions to register your details – If you have previously registered with SIEntries then just log-in

·         Follow the online entry procedure and pay

Timings for the event are as follows

·         Registration from 7:15 am - Tea, Coffee and snacks available. A mechanic will also be on standby for any last minute checks.

·          Epic Route commences from 8:00 am

·          Standard Route commences from 9:00 am

·          BBQ available from Noon

·          Family Fun cycle around the local area at 2:30 pm

·          Entry Fee: £30 inclusive of BBQ meal, Goody bag, fully licensed Bar. Live Music

Last year was a great success not only in the numbers participating but the event itself raised approximately £6,500 for o2e and strengthened our links with the Charity. We went on to play a major role in two of O2e's big fundraising events - The Amsterdam 200 and the Gala Ball.  As a result of our efforts O2e allocated £40,000 for our nominated Charity for 2012 - Riverside School.

We will be looking to build on the success of the inaugural event and make the 2013 Challenge, bigger and steeper with more participants and raising even more money for Charity!

This year has our chosen local charity is Demelza House

A little background information about the charity we support and our Cycle Club:

Ordinary 2 Extraordinary (o2e):

Is a totally voluntary children’s charity whose mission is 'to make a difference to the lives of serious and terminally ill children.' Over the years O2e has supported many
great charities and really has made a difference to so many children’s lives raising over £1.35 million to date. For more information visit their website www.o2e.org

Demela:

Demelza's Children's hospice supports children and young people (0-19) who are not expected to reach adulthood, and offer support to their families. The hospice offers children, young people and families the chance to build memories as a family unit, undertake a range of activities that are age and needs specific that they may not ordinarily be able to access.

Demelza offers complex symptom control during periods of active treatment. In many cases there is no cure. In others, treatment has been tried but failed and the focus has transferred from active to palliative care. When a diagnosis is given, families often feel very isolated. Short breaks and a range of specialist services benefiting the children and young people and their wider family are provided by this service, which are simply not available elsewhere. A very unique and special service that helps families though a very upsetting and challenging time in their lives.

Beckenham Rugby Cyclists:

A growing cycle club that was started three and a half years ago when a group of friends starting meeting for a weekly spin. This group of friends has grown and grown over the last few years and now has organised rides going out every day. What makes our club different from any other club is that we have rides to suit every level of rider, from those just finding a new passion for cycling up to those training for sportives, time trials and triathlons. A club for all.
