The Eastern Region Go-Ride Team, the Mud Sweat and Gears (MSG) organisers and Essex County Council have got together to create an exciting new development, MSG Aspire. MSG Aspire is designed for mountain bikers to replicate the success of the Track Superclub that Rob Sharman and Alison Lilley have created.
The standard of youth Mountain Biking in the region is not very high but we now have the opportunity to try and improve on things. There has been some great work recently with coaching Under 12’s at the MSG races but we want to extend this to older riders. The opening of the Olympic legacy site at Hadleigh Farm will create huge opportunities and the Mud Sweat and Gears series continues to grow and uncover new venues.
MSG Aspire days will be high quality coaching sessions at some of our best MTB venues. Riders will need to be fit and prepared to stretch themselves. It is likely that the Eastern Region Inter-regional MTB team will be selected from riders that attend MSG Aspire sessions. The days will run from 10am until 3pm.
The first MSG Aspire day will be on Sunday 14th April at Hadleigh Farm! We can’t ask for a more exciting venue than the site of the Olympic course for our first session.
Places on MSG Aspire days will be limited to 16 to maintain coach/rider ratios and to make sure the sessions are of a high quality. An MSG Aspire rider will be aged between 10 and 17 however with limited spaces we will have a priority list. The cost for each day will be £15.
Priority will be given to:
- Riders in Go-Ride clubs
- Youth A and B aged riders
- Those who have already done some MTB races
- Riders prepared to work hard to develop their technical skills
I would like to invite your club to nominate riders for the 14th April. Put them in priority order as it’s likely that we will be over subscribed. Please return nominations by the 31st March.
If anyone in your club is prepared to help out on the day then please let me know. We will need a mechanic, first aider (to keep the coaches free from this role) and assistant coaches. If your club coaches shadow our expert coaches then they will be able to take ideas back for their club sessions.
It would also be useful if you could nominate an MSG Aspire contact for your club that I can carry out all relevant communications with.
