This is the first Sportive to be organised from Hay on Wye. Hay is a border town on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, so it is no surprise that the route is very hilly but also very scenic. It largely uses quiet country roads.

It starts and finishes in Hay at the Hub at Drovers Cycles, and is a "squashed " figure of 8, with a 35 mile loop north of Hay , and a 65 mile soute South of Hay. Each loop can be ridden separately, or combined to make 100 miles in total.

Entry to the 35 mile loop if taken alone is through the Bike Fest website: www.haycycling.org. This loop takes in very peaceful countryside and is less challening thah the rest of the route, with just a couple of steady climbs, which can easily be walked if necessary !

The 65 miles route begins with a long steep climb up to Craswall, but once up the route becomes much easier, ending with a further climb and then long descent through the Gospel Pass, one of the iconic and very beautiful passes of the Welsh borders.

We will provide:

- stewards and good siging

- feed stations at the start and finish, and mid way through the route

- route map ( emailed out prior to the event )

- emergency numbers and back up

- pasta party the night before

- cheap accommodation via Treherne Outoor Activity Centre( details on www.haycycling.org)

- broom wagon for stragglers as needed

- individual times for riders

Two routes of 65 and 100 miles through glorious and very hilly countryside around Hay on Wye. This is largely on quiet small country roads. The route has two long climbs but the very steep sections are short and can be walked if necessary. This event is part of a weekend BikeFest in Hay over 13th/14th April, and those wanting to join the sportive route for a 35mile loop can do so by booking at: www.haycycling.org.
