Event Summary

Event Overview

British Cycling South West BMX Development Centres

Development centres will run every month across the region. Centres will be led by Simon Rickett with the assistance of coaches from the hosting clubs.  The aim of the regional development centres is to coach and educate riders to support their training and aim towards potential selection for Regional Schools of Racing. This is the first step on the British Cycling Talent Pathway.  The centres will also support local coaches in their personal development, Simon will be available to liaise and mentor coaches in the development of their club coaching sessions. Older riders wanting to become coaches can also gain experience and support through the centres.

Attendance at development centres is based on selection based on assessment of a range of skills and race results.. These are a developmental step towards the Regional school of Racing criteria. Numbers at development centres will be limited based on coaches available to ensure a genuine coaching environment where riders get high quality individual feedback and development points to work on between sessions.  If riders are not initially selected they will be given actions to work on and the opportunity to attend later in the season.  In 2021 we will be running development centres for boys and girls separately to allow specific development coaching for each group.

Once we have tested, selection will be made for the development centres. BMX is a competitive sport and as such if significant numbers of riders exceed the minimum criteria then the test results will be used to make selection.

If parents, clubs or coaches would like more information, clarification or to volunteer then please contact Simon
