Beastway London Summer Cyclocross 2021 r3

Cyclo-Cross , London – Thursday, 17 Jun 2021

Event Summary

Event Overview

Beastway London Summer Cyclocross Series 2021
Four races in four weeks in June.

  • Round 1 – Thursday 3 JUNE, Hog Hill London IG6 3HP
  • Round 2 – Thursday 10 JUNE, Hog Hill London IG6 3HP
  • Round 3 – Thursday 17 JUNE, Herne Hill  London SE24 9HE
  • Round 4 – TUESDAY 22 JUNE, Herne Hill  London SE24 9HE – Finale prizegiving and BAR (fingers crossed)

The Summer Cross races are a chance to test bikes and riders as new people come in to try our sport.  – Perhaps they will stay at it into the ‘muddy months’ but whatever, these races are always super-popular and a great way to enjoy the light summer evenings. Particularly when we hit the Tuesday finale normality may have resumed and we can make the most of the bar at Herne Hill. :-)

Please note that for the foreseeable, these races are all Pre-Entry ONLY and are quite likely to sell out. We strongly suggest series entry to guarantee a start and save you stress and money. See round 1.

COVID regulation racing means we have a spaced grid with distanced access to it. Summer Cross races are all run under the ONE BIKE regulation. Yep, one bike, no pits, no outside assistance, no tool-drop, no spares, no track-pumps, no hand-ups of any kind, no spectators either so riders should be self-reliant during the race.

The single accompanying chaperone allowed for young riders under 16 should not stand trackside nor gather at the starting grid. Sadly we can't allow spectators into the site. (...see your entry confirmation email for where we are looking for helpers to marshal...) . All races are PRE-ENTRY ONLY.
The pavilion at Hog Hill will be open for toilets and rider check-in, plus lockers (£1 coin returned after use). Kiosk food and drink will be available from an external servery. Showers or changing rooms can't be opened.

We are very grateful to Dulwich Paragon for their club's assistance here at Herne Hill.

After your race please do not gather in groups and keep your distance.
 - We know this all sounds a bit soul-less but we'll do our best to make an atmosphere and you'll get to race! We know riders will be pleased to see one another and we're delighted to offer events, but please respect social distancing and wear a mask all times when not on the bike. Be ready to follow instructions which are made with good intention to keep us all safe and racing.

Who knows? By the time we make it to a race there might be no need for all of this - Or the races might not run at all, like last year... In which case we will refund your entry in full, less only the BC handling fee which adds up to £2 off.

Pre-entry to this round opens on 8 May and closes at 11pm on 15 June. It may well sell out before. Priority given to full series entrants (see round 1)

About the Event

Info for Riders

Senior Vet men's race IS NOW FULL. No more entries will be accepted. Women, Juniors, Youth & U12 category races remain open.

Correct Venue for this event is Herne Hill SE24 9HE

**Pre-entry closes at 11pm on 15 June but may sell out**

Sign-on and race results is being run by Beastway Timing, using its chips and software. Chips are mounted on your number. The number board mounts on your seatpin and saddle rails using the tabs we provide. No zip-ties please.
We may also supply a number to pin on your back. Keep hold of all the numbers in your rider pack for all races in the series. Penalties apply for lost numbers to be replaced, so don't forget, and keep your number with your kitbag. We would like you to return your number board when the series is done. There will be a drop for this at Herne Hill's finale.

Results will be published at www.beastwayresults.co.uk and a write up will be on the blog

There will be time for a sighting and practice lap immediately prior to the start. These are OneBike races and there shall be no gridding apart from that we do for distancing. Riders are not permitted to ‘hang’ near the start and may be bumped to the back where there is always a space for them to start. Sometimes the start will be in a place you might not expect and those on the sighting lap will get to it first….

OneBike means no spares laying course-side, no pits and no repairs with outside assistance. If you can race with any repair materials, you are welcome to use them in case of need. The intention of this rule (8.1.2) is to simplify non-ranking events for all riders, but especially for those coming new to the sport. Please respect the rule, make sure you have puncture resistant tyres and a properly maintained bike. This rule was extensively trialled last series and it works well.

AGE CATEGORIES are taken from your age on 1 Sept 2020 - 31 Aug 2021. You will be re-allocated if you select the wrong age group. See BC Regulations page 7 for full info
