Join us for our 4th annual wheel around Cardiff Bay - raising funds for the patients on the Spinal Rehabilitation Unit at Rookwood Hospital.


Come along with your family & bring your wheels ... bikes, wheelchairs, trikes, scooters, skates ... anything goes!! This is an event for all - inclusive and accessible. Adapted bikes are encouraged!!


Do as much or as little as you like - a 5 mile circular loop or two, or maybe just a push or scoot across the Barrage to the ice cream van!!

Registration fees : £5 per child, £10 per adult.


Participants are welcome to also raise sponsorship via our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/rookwoodspur however there is no obligation to do so.

Where does the event start?

The event will start  underneath the Barrage Control Building, which is situated through the lock gates on the Cardiff Bay Barrage (Penarth side). Participants should meet there at 1.30pm, ready to start at 2pm.

Is there any parking at the event?

There is a pay & display car park at the Cardiff Bay Barrage (Penarth side). There are designated disabled spaces and parking is free for disabled blue badge holders. http://www.cardiffbay.co.uk/listings/the-barrage-car-park/

Are there any accessible toilets on the route?

Yes. Accessible toilets are available at the following points:

  • Barrage Control building
  • Cafe Hafren (RSPB cafe - orange)
  • Children's skate park across the barrage
  • Millenium Centre at Mermaid Quay
  • Various cafes and restaurants at Mermaid Quay
  • Cardiff White Water Rafting centre

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No, but a parent or guardian must accompany participants under the age of 16.

WHEEL 4 ROOKWOOD SPUR 2019 (‘The Event’) : TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. A parent or guardian must accompany participants under the age of 16.
2. All participants, with the exclusion of wheelchair users, are encouraged to wear a helmet.
3. The Event takes place primarily on designated cycle paths, but on occasion does cross and run alongside the public highway. All participants must comply with the Highway Code at all times, respect other users of the cycle paths, and ride in a manner which is safe to themselves and to others.
4. All participants should adhere to advice provided by or on behalf of Rookwood SpUR (“the Organiser”) and comply with instructions and directions given by the officials and marshals.

5. Participants are responsible for the roadworthiness and safe working order of their own equipment. Where applicable, participants should ensure their brakes are in good working order, and that they have the tools and spares necessary to affect minor roadside repairs.

6. Participation in the Event is entirely at the participant’s own risk. No liability whatsoever shall attach to the Organiser in respect of any injury, loss or damage suffered by reason of the Event.
7. Whilst the Organiser takes every care with organising the Event, participants acknowledge that personal accident and personal items insurance is his/her sole responsibility.
8. The entry fee is non-refundable.
9. If the Event is cancelled because of circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Organiser including, without limitation, fire, storm, and/or flood, then the participant will not be entitled to any refund of the entry fee and compensation of other losses, such as travelling or accommodation expenses.
10. The Organiser reserves the right to alter the start time of the Event. In the event of a change of start time the participants will be notified of the revised start time with as much notice as reasonably practicable.
11. The Organiser reserves the right to amend the Event format, including changing the course and the distance.
