Event Summary

Event Overview

Inter County Velo invite you to join us to remember and honour one of our founding members Yvette Toms by joing us for a cycling based event.

In honour of this amazing lady, we have arranged the Red Smile Ride for Sunday 6th May 2018 to celebrate everything she should for and keep her dream alive of getting people riding bikes and benefitting from this amazing activity.

Her employers, Maritime Transport Limited, have kindly allowed us use of their award winning head office in Felixstowe to stage the event and so far we have the following confirmed:

  • A ride to all of Yvette’s favourite places in the area for experienced cyclists of around 100 kims

  • A ride for less experienced cyclists of around 30 miles (this route can be made even shorter if you want).

  • A kids cycle course set up with the use of Frog bikes

  • Support from a local bike shop Elmy’s who supplied bikes to Yvette, (including the last bike she bought – a team issue, ridden in the 2016 Tour de France, Lotto Soudal Ridley Noah for her partner Danny).

  • Top raffle prize of a children’s road bike donated by Elmy’s.

  • Other raffle prizes donated include a signed poster and T-Shirt from Ned Boulting, Official team Lotto Soudal bidons, 2 entries for the 2018 Crafted Classique plus two event cycle jerseys and a case of Kwaremont beer direct from Flanders. A subscription to Rouleur magazine, plus more to be announced

  • The Frog Island Jazz band

  • 24 hour Spinathon leading into the event organised by Spin Ipswich

  • Top UK amateur Team GB track rider Chris Welham will be attending

  • Bar with a selection of Belgian beers and soft drinks

  • Support from Kwaremont Beer Flanders

  • Hot and cold food and drinks

  • Fresh Gold Radio transmitting live from the event

  • Support and a warm welcome from the Easton White Horse (the half way point on the 100km ride) + maintenance support here.

  • Cake stall

We will be raising money for a charity very close to many people’s hearts, the Saint Elizabeth’s Hospice in Ipswich. This is where Yvette spent her last few days.

The event is all about fun and Yvette, so in her honour and as a bit of a twist everyone attending will be asked to wear red lipstick and to ‘show us your smile!’ with entrants in the ride getting a commemorative medal.

Anyone is welcome The Facebook page for the event is called Rule #5Y. We are also on Twitter @redsmileride
