Event Overview

VC Melyd’s 3rd annual Reliability challenge takes place on April 8th.  This reliability ride is a challenging, scenic and beautiful ride in North Wales, and as always, we can promise, an interesting and testing undulating route along country lanes, little used roads with hidden valleys in our beautiful corner of the countryside

Our ride is open to everyone, all are welcome, the more the merrier.

Description

The route is around 55 miles with just over 5,000 feet of climbing mostly avoiding A roads, along back roads. Don’t expect a sportive, this is an old school reliability trial, the only concession to the present day is a downloadable GPS file that will be available on the clubs face book page (VC Melyd Cycling Club).

We have included this year 3 off road sections on bridle paths. These off road sections will have on road alternatives is desired.

There are challenging short sharp climbs, meandering lanes, riding through woodland with fantastic views around every corner.

Expect a thoroughly good day out.

All proceeds go to charity, this year’s charity is MENS SHED, a nonprofit organisation, based in Denbigh.  They provide a community based space for men to connect and converse, with mental health and wellbeing a priority.

Reliability

Reliability Rides are historic events dating back to the early 20th century when cycling equipment was less reliable and roads were poorly signposted.

Reliability rides generally take place in early spring and are great fun, social events as well as an early test of fitness.

Advisory Notes

Due to the challenging and rural nature of this ride low geared winter bikes are advised. (Not the day to bring out your shiny carbon steed!).

Be prepared with adequate nutrition .No back up arranged so you are fully responsible for any mechanical issues.

Event Date & Location

This ride is on Sunday April 8th, and this year’s HQ is St Asaph Community Centre, entrance next to Fountain garage LL17 0RF.  Sign on from 8.30 a.m. and a £5.00 minimum entrance fee (all donations to Charity). 9.00 a.m. start.

Info for Riders

Info for Riders

Last year we had over 60 riders, mostly riding winter bikes, but some rode mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes. Whatever you ride low gearing is recommended.

A good idea would be to buddy up with riders of similar ability. It is essential that you carry adequate spares, clothing, food and drink, money and a mobile phone, as you need to be self-sufficient. However, refreshments will be available at the MENS SHED in Denbigh at approximately the 35km

Please ride safely and considerately as it is much of the ride is on open roads, often narrow and of varying condition. Every rider is expected to bring their own spares (minimum 2 inner tubes), tyre levers, multi-tool, pump, drink and snacks also a fully charged mobile phone.
