Event Summary

Event Overview

The Brontë Sportive is organised in conjunction with the Manorlands cycling events group and is a challenging cycling event in the heart of the West Yorkshire Pennines.

Our 9th Brontë Sportive event will take place on Sunday 15th July 2018. As in previous years, there will be four routes to suit all abilities, including the 88-mile Brontë Monster. For 2018 all routes will remain the same as last year as the switch to ‘more urban’ was well received.

We’re offering 4 routes that make for a challenge for riders of all different abilities. The links on their names will take you to maps of each route:

  • Anne – 29 miles: The new 29-miler 'Anne' takes in over 3,700ft of climbing, including roads that rarely feature in the usual Yorkshire sportives, but all the routes do take in the famous cobbles of Haworth (hence the name).
  • Emily - 50 miles: The 50-miler 'Emily' takes a slightly larger loop and, at 37 miles, presents you with the Cow and Calf climb-up from Ilkley. It also has over 6,400ft of climbing.
  • Charlotte - 69 miles: The 69-miler 'Charlotte' has over 8,700ft of climbing, takes in some of those Wuthering Heights-esque moors and tackles the Mytholm Steeps - one of the UK's top-100 climbs. It even heads to the dark side (Lancashire!) before returning to Yorkshire and finishing with three climbs including the Cow and Calf.
  • Heathcliff - 88 miles: The 88-miler 'Heathcliff' is a monster with 10,700ft+ of climbing, including Penistone Hill, Cragg Vale, the punishing Mytholm Steeps and a selection of other tough climbs where the Pennines meet the Dales, finishing with the Cow and Calf.
