Welsh Wanderer Sportive

Cycle Sportive , Monmouth – Sunday, 26 Aug 2018

Event Summary

Event Overview

Expect stunning views but expect a challenge, as the Welsh Wanderer sportive is centred in the Wye Valley in south-east Wales. This scenic location is nestled on the border between England and Wales and is famous for its winding river and its rolling hills.

Starting out from the Monmouth Showground which plays host to the Welsh Caravan and Motorhome Rally and Cyclefest. You will straight away tackle the hills of the Wye Valley first of all. The route will take you down to Chepstow and will continue to follow the perimeter of the area of natural outstanding beauty which is the Wye Valley.

At St Briavels you will head towards the river Wye which you will follow to Redbrook which at that point you will see the signs for the split of the standard or the challenge route. The Standard course will continue on the road straight back to the Monmouth showground whereas the Challenge course loops into England and the Forest of Dean for another 30km before returning to the Showground. Whilst in the Forest of Dean there are a few small climbs that are sheltered and remote roads, but they shouldn’t make you too uncomfortable to enjoy the tranquillity and wilderness along the wooded roads.
