Event Summary

Event Overview

Now in its second year, the Skylark Sportive takes place on 12 April 2015. The longest of three routes - 100km - includes three of the most significant climbs of the 2014 Tour de France Stage 2 route through West Yorkshire.

The 100km Skylark Sportive loops northwards via the heather moorland and villages of the Yorkshire/Lancashire border before swinging Southwards and on to the six mile climb of Cragg Vale, famously the longest uninterrupted climb in England and a major feature of the Tour’s 2014 visit to the area. Hard on the heels of Cragg Vale comes the short but steep Ripponden Bank, a spectacular sweeping climb out of the pretty village of Ripponden. Holme Moss is the final big climb, a five mile monster, both steep and exposed in the upper stretches.

75km and 50km routes: As well as the full 100km, there are also 50 and 75km options, both including Ripponden Bank and the 75km including Cragg Vale. So there's no excuse not to pit yourself against the climbs that are now part of the TdF legend.

Minor Pleasures: However, above all else, it's the event's use of minor roads and country lanes, ignored by the Tour, that really defines it. You'll pass through forgotten hamlets, along the edges of wild moorlands and past cottages and streams miles from the beaten track.

Designed by local riders: We wanted to make the route special, so we employed local cyclists to design it for us. They knew where the riding was best, where the roads were quiet and where the climbs and descents were a special experience. And that, if asked, is what we think makes this event special.

Here's what they said after the 2014 event: Just wanted to say thanks for a great day out yesterday" | "organisation was superb and a great route. It was nice to be on a small friendly sportive.” | “Fantastic routes, well organised and super friendly staff at the feed stations.” | “A fantastic well organised and friendly event. I was particularly impressed by the challenging route. How did you find so many hills in 100km (even without Holme Moss). I don’t think I need to mention the Wind, on what was otherwise a beautiful sunny day for a ride through the wonderful Yorkshire countryside . Well done to all the team.”

The 2014 edition sold out, so please get you entry in early and give yourself a cracking goal with which to start your 2015 season!
