Go-Ride Race: Dorking Raiders (Cancelled)

MTB XC , Dorking – Sunday, 15 Feb 2015

Event Summary

This event has been cancelled

Event Overview

Dorking Raiders Go-Ride races are open to everyone from 6 to 16. This includes all the Dorking and Redhill Raiders, as well as children from other Go-Ride Clubs.

Our Go-Ride Races currently take place at The Priory School, West Bank, Dorking. Please be aware the area we use for racing is on grass, so Mountain Bike style bikes are preferred.

Registration on a Go-Ride Race day is between 9.30 and 9.50am. Riders arriving after 9.50am may not be able to race. Entry Fee is £4 for everybody whether a British Cycling member or not. Plus you need to get your parents to complete a consent form

The format is typically three events:-

Skills Test

Riders negotiate their way around an obstacle course (eg slalom, limbo, circle of doom). The fastest and cleanest (penalty per cone hit/obstacle failed) rider around the course wins.

Individual Time Trial

Riders do a single timed lap around a marked out technical track. Fastest rider wins

Handicap Scratch Race

Riders are graded from the Individual Time Trial, lined up and started at suitable time gaps to aim to have a close finish across the line on the last lap. First rider to cross the line wins.

Riders are split into four groups depending on their age and ability. The Raiders are continually assessed and their Group is on the standard sign-on sheet. For visiting riders a simple guide to the Groups are as follows

Group D
Can cycle and perform basic cycling techniques. Typical age guide 6 to 8.

Group C
Capable cyclist showing skills in basic cycling techniques and beginning intermediate techniques. Typical age guide 9 to 10.

Group B
Competent cyclist skilled at basic and intermediate techniques. Typical age guide 11 and over.

Group A
Older and more skilled riders who have competed at British Cycling events. They take part for fun at Go-Ride Races to inspire and encourage the younger riders. Typical age guide 14 and over.

Racing is general all competed by 12.45 at which time the presentations and awards are given out.

There will be some waiting around so please can you ensure that your child has suitable clothing and plenty of layers including layers that can be easily take off/put on while waiting or racing. They will also need plenty to drink and snacks. They will also be a snack van available to purchase coffee etc.
