Ipswich BMX Go-Ride Racing Summer Series - Round 1

Posted 02/05/2014 - John Lillingstone

Report by: Shaun Andrews

Ipswich BMX Club recently staged the first round of its British Cycling Go-Ride Racing, Summer Series.

Glorious sunshine bathed the clubs Landseer Park track & with only a gentle breeze felt along the first straight conditions could not have been better.

Racing consisted of three classes of four motos (heats).  Riders were ranked based on their finishing positions in each of the four motos.

The first (formula 3) saw a good mixture of experienced riders like Hayden Gladwell race against newcomers including Olli Lucas. Hayden’s experience shone through as he took the win in the first race before retiring in the third.  Another newcomer Leon Harrison won the 2nd, 3rd & final moto to secure the overall win & first place medal. Sam Hambling rode well against riders much bigger than himself to take second ahead of Olli Lucas.

Formula 2 was to be a highly competitive class. Jon Hambling & Lee Matthews raced hard & finished 2nd & 3rd respectively. Their results may have been better had they not tired in the 4th & final race. Abi Pike was able to take full advantage & win the final moto & take the overall win.

The final class of the evening was formula 1. Shaun Andrews won each of the four motos ahead of the fast improving Matt Hillyard. Ben Peters finished in 3rd competing in his first BMX race in more than a decade.

Round two of the Summer Series is at Landseer Park, Ipswich on May 6st. Registration closes at 6.30pm.
