Step Out Cycling Festival Sportive

Cycle Sportive , Cleobury Mortimer – Saturday, 07 Jun 2014

Event Summary

Event Overview

South Shropshire’s first Cycling Festival will take place on June 7th 2014. This exciting day will provide an opportunity for young people and adults alike to take part in and get excited about all things cycling. Step-Out MTB Coaching, the cycling arm of Step-Out Outdoor Learning, is proud to be hosting this exciting multi-discipline event. Put it in your diary now!

As part of the festival, Step-Out and Urban Fitness GB will be running a 50mile on-road Sportive. Starting from Lacon Childe School, Cleobury Mortimer the circular route will challenge some of you and takes in spectacular views of south Shropshire's countryside. Riders will tackle a climb up Clee Hill and be rewarded with some sharp descents on the way back down. On the descent, the route takes a scenic tour through local villages on country lanes towards Bitterley, before turning up towards Bridgnorth, Silvington and Stottesdon, then weaving its way across to Highley and through the village before heading back towards Cleobury Mortimer.

Riders will be supported by a well stocked feed Station at Farlow Primary School (placed at the halfway point), where USN fuel will be on hand courtesy of our friends at Urban Fitness GB.

Because it’s a festival, once you have finished your ride stay a while and make the most of the rest of the activities going on during the day. There’s loads to do! We have Pearce Cycles on site with a mobile shop and a chance to take the latest mountain and road bikes for a spin on a test course and Bewdley Outdoors are with us too showcasing their newest gear from Jack Wolfskin and Buff. And of course there’ll be local hot grub on hand to keep you from getting hungry.

And that’s not all; Step-Out will be giving you the chance to bag yourself some prizes with various competitions throughout the day, from our ‘track-stand’ competition to our ‘head-to-head tyre and tube changing’ race. We’ll also have some taster sessions on the award-winning Keiser M3 spin bikes and short 20 minute training sessions specific to cycling.

To finish off the afternoon, Step-Out will be running some coaching sessions on a small dual slalom course. Designed for younger riders looking to give a different mountain bike discipline a go, it will offer the chance to have some coaching on a proper start gate too.

Saturday 7th June 2014....Book on the Sportive and see you there!
