Beware of water and missing signs

Posted 08/02/2014

All entrants must be aware there are extensive stretches of standing water around many parts of both courses, so must exercise extra care. Whilst care has been taken with sign-posting of the course, entrants must be aware that some signs may become detached in the strong winds overnight. Written route details have been revised, and will be issued at sign-on, and entrants are responsible for following the amended course.

Diversion due to flooding

Posted 08/02/2014

Both routes have been fully sign-posted, and both events are going ahead as planned, but flooding at Paper Mills lock has necessitated a small diversion to the 60m route from Woodham Walter to halfway up North Hill. However, entrants to the 60m event may be interested to note that they can still "enjoy" the climb of the steepest part!

Events still on despite flooding

Posted 07/02/2014

Despite the recent very rainfall, both events are still scheduled to go ahead on Sunday, but due to flooding along the River Chelmer the 60 mile route is likely to change slightly. Final decisions will be made on Saturday after the sign-posting team have completed their work.

Route maps on website

Posted 02/02/2014

Route maps showing the 25mile ride and the extra loops of the 60mile ride will very shortly be on the Southend Wheelers website.

Please note that all motor vehicles must enter and leave the aerodrome via the Flambird's Chase entrance off Hackmans Lane.

Both the 25 and 60 mile routes exit and enter the aerodrome via Crows Lane. This is strictly cyclists only; no motor vehicles allowed.
