Tom Neale won a sprint finish in the elite category of the Peterborough CC organised Alston Country Homes Road Race on Sunday.
The race, held in Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire took in a 78-mile route and proved to be a competitive affair with the top eleven riders competing in a bunch sprint to determine the outcome.
Last year’s winner, Steve Lampier, was once again in the lead group but could only finish eighth as 21-year-old Neale of Team Corley Cycles claimed victory.
Tom said after the race: “I didn’t originally have a plan but 15 to 20 riders got away on the first lap. I bridged across when the gap got to about 10 seconds and a few people got dropped with some others coming up from behind.
A couple of riders got away, one being Andy Hastings but Steve Lampier brought it back. From there, I just waited and I think I timed the attack well.
“I wasn’t sure about my form coming into this race but it went well. The Victor Belmont is nextup for me. It was a rolling course today, a hard race really. About 80 started but I’d be surprised if 40 finished.”
