Stepping up his challenge for overall honours, Matthew Webber led a one-two for Hackney GT as he recorded his fifth win of the Eastern League series in steady drizzle at Broome Heath.

The 39-year-old Londoner pulled away over the second half of the race to win from team-mate Ben Ellis on a course which included four sandy dismount stretches.

Series leader at the start of the day, Ross Tricker (XRT-Elmy Cycles) settled for third after a ‘coming together’ with fourth-placed Tim Guy (Iceni Velo), and Billy Whenman (Zannata CT) enjoyed a rare cyclo-cross appearance in fifth place.

Ian Newby (Diss & District CC) scored a clear elite veterans victory wearing a very old Trek jersey in memory of Joe Waller, to whose name the feature race is dedicated.
