Location: Newtown, Powys, Wales
Event: 17 November 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Tim Davies was a comfortable winner ahead of club-mate Joe Lally in the main race of round seven of the Welsh League.

The race, held at Trehafren Fields in Newtown, was new for the 2013 season and was a mix of fast sports fields and technical steep, wooded banks.

This suited the former professional mountain biker and after a third of the first lap, Davies took off at the front.

From then on, the lead only grew and the 46-year-old used the vantage points of the course to keep track of Lally.

With three laps to go, he pulled even further ahead and went on to win by over a minute. This was his first win in the league this season.

Speaking after the race, Davies said: “I took off after about a third of a lap, this course played to my strengths.

“This is the first year this race has been held and I think the organisers have done a fantastic job.

“They’ve put a lot of effort in, I don’t live far away so I know some of the people that put it together and it was great, really well marshalled.

“I only heard good things about it, some riders can’t cope with the more technical courses.

“I just stayed away and at a couple of points you could gauge how far off the other riders are.

“I’ve just come back to sport after retiring a few times. It was 27 years ago that I got my first win in this league.

“I entered five events last year and got the taste for it. “I’m enjoying it again. I’ve no long term plans but I’m doing it because I want to and if I wake up on a Sunday morning and don’t want to do it then I won’t.”
