Jeremy Hicks (Rugby Velo) stormed to his first cyclo-cross victory of the season in a highly technical West Midlands league round three at Redditch.

Riders started at the bottom of a wooded climb before heading through the finish and back into a wooded section which included three steep climbs which were all rideable and several twisty descents.

The challenging course favoured those with good bike handling and was quite a long lap with the leading seniors lapping at around eight minutes a lap.

Hicks, aged 23, from Rugby finished eighth and 11th in the opening two rounds of the series but stormed to victory around the technical circuit.

Coming home second some 18 seconds behind was Peter Banham, from Bromsgrove with third place and first veteran going to Darren Atkins who started behind all the seniors.

Danny Fox (RST Racing Team) flew to his second victory of the season in the junior/veterans and women’s race finishing nearly three minutes clear of second place Anthony Neaves (Stourbridge CC) in second.

The veteran over 50’s category who started after the juniors was won by Michael Davies (Pedal Power) who finished only a second in front of Peter Harris (Pearce Cycles RT).

First lady home was Verity Appleyard (Brotherton Cycles).

In the youth event Ewan Grivell-Mellor (Mid Shropshire Whls) took his third victory of the series but was pushed all the way by William Gascoyne (Matlock CC) who finished in second with Louis Killworth (Welland Valley CC) coming home third.

Also in the youth event Lewis Askey came home in 8th position overall to win the under-14 category, Phoebe Martin (Lichfield City CC) was first under-16 girl and Elle Russell (Mid Shropshire Whls) was first under-14 girl.

The under-12 event was won by Edward Woodward (Coventry RC) and taking the first girl prize was Josie Nelson (Solihull CC)

In the under-10 race Ben Askey (Lichfield City CC) was victorious with Fay Garner (Welland Valley CC) coming home first girl.
