Cycle Training

Cycle Training Homepage

British Cycling delivers Bikeability and adult cycle training to empower more people to start cycling; increasing their health and well-being and making Britain’s roads a better place to be.

Cycle Training provides people with the necessary skills and confidence to cycle on today’s roads.

To deliver effective cycle training, we need enthusiastic and committed instructors to ensure young people and adults alike are enthused to cycle more regularly and with less risk.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our courses and supporting resources, and we hope you can join us in getting more people active by taking to their bikes.

Bitesize Bikeability: Part 4: On-Road Positioning

Cyclists are safest when they can easily see and be seen. Adopting a safe road position can also allow the cyclist a safety zone in which to manoeuvre in the event of a potential accident.

Bikeability Brings Positive Results

As an active deliverer of Bikeability Training, British Cycling welcomes the results of The Department for Transport (DfT) research study which has evaluated the impact and perceptions of cycle training, with a specific focus on Bikeability, and found positive results.

Become an Instructor

High-quality cycle training instructors are at the heart of increasing the number of young people cycling regularly, improving their health and fitness, reducing road congestion and increasing participation in cycling across all levels and disciplines.

Improve your instructing

Delivering cycle training is a continuous learning process, which you should constantly aim to improve. The Department for Transport (DfT) recommends that instructors attend at least three hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) every year.
