Heckmondwike v Team Goshen
Event: 17 April 2013
Location: Heckmondwike
Report: John Whiting

Bury-based debutantes Team Goshen almost humble Heckmondwike in their opening match.

Heckmondwike entertained new Team Goshen on Wednesday night. Goshen is made up of Bury’s riders who aren’t considered for the first teams and still want to race. With only the Dyson brothers having had a match this year, Paul tossed the coin and duly lost, Darren Kent racing away for victory in race 1 of 15.

Idjiorek carried on his Elite League form with a comfortable victory and a good seven points to Wood/Watson gave the home side the lead. Race five and Goshen hit back as Rothwell/P Dyson took seven points from Adam Watson, tying the scores at 25 each. Further wins to Kent and then Paul Graham kept the scores level, an exclusion to C. Dyson gave the home side a narrow 40-39 lead.

This was a really close match and the visitors sneaked into the lead as P Graham snatched a second win with Whiting third. Kent and Idjiorek won races with Mark Graham much improved on John Whiting’s second bike. Race 13 and 4 wins for Darren from Graham and Rothwell with Laura Watson always in contention.

Race 14 and the match changer, Chris Dyson took one, against the fast gating Idjiorek, Whiting three and Wood four. Pavel gated, Dyson carried on, fell off and brought down Whiting, who smashed his helmet and had to retire from the meeting.

An easy seven points for Heckmondwike followed, consolidated by a good 6-4 to Kent and Watson over Senior Dyson. A really good match, plenty of good racing and benefits for all involved, not least Mark and Paul Graham who having got the bug, signed for Astley and Tyldesley, with Mark Mulvey, another returnee, supporting Northumbria. Both Paul and Mark Mulvey on the form shown could have made the Bury first Team.

Darren Kent and Idjiorek were relatively untroubled. Jake Wood had a fine 17 points with solid support all round, good to see youngsters at the Yorkshire club.

For Goshen, Paul Graham will be pleased with 17 points and overall everyone contributed, (Mark needs to sort his bike out), but ideas of a debut win went in race 14.
