Astley & Tyldesley are pleased to announce two new signings this week. Brothers Mark and Paul Graham are making a return to the sport after a 19 years absence.
The riders previously rode for the Bury and Manchester teams during the 1980s and have been training at Astley for the past few weeks. Their signing is a major boost to the A&T senior squad which is competing in this year's Northern League Division 1 and both riders are looking forward to making their A&T debuts against Northumbria this Sunday.
The next exciting cycle speedway action will take place at Astley & Tyldesley's Gin Pit raceway this forthcoming Sunday (21st April). A&T will take on the Northumbria Vikings in a Northern League encounter, starting at 2 pm. There will be three matches ridden, as the CWTS Ltd. sponsored A&T team look to move up the Division 1 and Division 2 tables, as well as extending their unbeaten run in Division 3. Spectators are welcome, with free admission, to watch the afternoon's racing at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, M29 7DW.
Following on from this, Astley & Tyldesley host the opening round of the Manchester League series on Wednesday 24th April. Registrations are at 7 pm, for a 7.30 pm race start. A&T's impressive juniors will launch their defence of the Manchester League Division 2 title that they won last year, whilst the seniors will contest the Division 1 match, as Stockport begin their defence of that title.
A&T are pleased to announce an extension in practice sessions provided by the club, to cater for the ever increasing large numbers of youngsters attending the Tuesday club nights. Three sessions will now run - the first one for u-13s between 6 and 7 pm; the second one for a different group of u-13s between 7 and 8 pm; the third one for 13s+ and seniors between 8 and 9 pm. The sessions will be taken by the club's two British Cycling Level 1 coaches Will Evans and Paul Whitelegg. Any interested newcomers wishing to try out cycle speedway are welcome to along to one of these sessions for a free taster. Bikes and helmets are provided by the club.
