Exeter raised their league title aspirations with a narrow victory against fellow contenders Newport at the Marsh Barton circuit.

Welsh hopes were finally dashed late in the match when key rider Jack Harrold was match banned  and his absence from the next match at Southampton will put added pressure on his team mates. Welsh international Mark Carmichael was the top rider on the day but the home side had the better balance and greater strength in depth.

There were no such pressures for Poole who stepped up their league championship challenge with a comfortable win against Hellingly. Neil Hollebon was once again in a class of his own for the Lions but he had to admit second best to reigning British junior champion Arron Morgan who delighted home fans with a well executed pass in heat 13.
