Twenty-two people from ten cycle speedway clubs attended the British Cycling Development Commission Conference on Sunday 22 January.

Led by commission member Ian Brown, the meeting came to the conclusion that the most effective way enhance and develop the sport to make it more attractive to new riders and to help the weaker clubs re-establish themselves was to completely overhaul the competition structure.

The outcomes of the conference for the British Cycling Cycle Speedway Commission to manage are as follows

  • Focus on initiatives to aid the development and expansion of clubs.
  • Draw up a Template Calendar of events as a working document for the 2013 season. This would show a 50% split between local/club competition and regional/national team competition.
  • Draw up ‘Job Descriptions’ for the volunteer lead roles required for coaching, club development, women and publicity.
  • Draw a paper to encourage all cycle speedway clubs to adopt the intent of the conference.
