Ipswich v Poole

Ipswich finished their debut season in the Premier League with a convincing win at home to Poole Comets and doing so making sure they didn't finish with the wooden spoon .
Poole may not have been at full strength this afternoon but still were able to field a decent top six riders. The first heat was shared, whilst heat 2 saw Poole draw first blood with the impressive polish rider Greg Gluchowski taking the flag and with Sam Hearn defending his third place 6-4 to Poole. Heat 3 was also shared,then Ipswich took control of the match with young Lewis Roberts and Dan Chambers securing a 6-4 heat win this was followed by a 7-3 from Ipswich pairing Josh Brooke and Jordan Stant thus giving the Suffolk outfit a four point lead.
To Poole’s credit they hit back in the next heat with a 6-4 win to close it back to two points, but Ipswich were in a determined mood and produces two maximum 7-3s in heats 7 and eight firstly through Chambers and Brooke, then Chittock and Pike putting the home team ten points clear. Poole did manage to claw back two points in heat 9 when Gluchowski and Smith saw off Roberts and Mower to cut Ipswich's lead to eight points at the break.
Poole came out in heat 10 firing in a 6-4 win and the comeback was on but this Ipswich team wasn’t going to give its lead away without a fight and hit back in heat 11 with a 6-4 of themselves with Pike and Chittock making sure Poole weren't going to build any momentum. Heat 12 was shared then came heats 13 and 14 where Poole saw exclusions to Pete Young and Aaron Smith, Ipswich pairing firstly securing a 7-2 win for Williamson and Mower this followed with a 6-3 by Chittock and Roberts.
This gave Ipswich a commanding lead which was to see the home team to victory, heat 15 was a shared heat before heat 16 saw an unlucky exclusion for Brooke which cost him a paid maximum but team mate Mower was awarded the heat win 5-4 to Poole. Heat 17 gave Poole their biggest success of the afternoon when Gluchowski and Glover saw off Chambers and Chittock 7-3 ,not to be out done heat 18 saw Pike and
Williamson roll back the clock for an impressive 7-3 to give Ipswich a richly deserved victory by fifteen points . Final note must go to referee Terry Ashford who had a fine match in the middle and was in control at all times .

Combination League
With Poole already conceding 11 points it was always going to be tough for them against this strong Ipswich team who have only lose one match at home this season and so it turned out to be with Ipswich in complete control from the off with only Aaron Smith offering any joy for the Poole club scoring a well earn 14 points.
Ipswich recording nine 7-3's heat wins, in fact winning 11 out of the 13 heats on offer and sharing the other two, for Ipswich Lauren Jacobs caught the eye and returned a fine 15 points to continue her good form, the Ipswich captain rode within himself and scored a paid max 17+3 from his five rides. Other Ipswich riders who did
himself no harm for next season was Will Clark scoring 12+3 while evergreen and the popular Barry Copping can be pleased with his 10+1 from his three rides.
Ipswich have finish their season on great form unbeaten in their last four
outings with wins over Wednesfield ,Sheffield and Poole with a draw at Horspath to cap a good season and with a
little more luck at times would have been a real threat to the top sides.

Astley & Tyldesley GP Series 8
Location: Astley & Tyldesley Miners Welfare Club, Manchester

Astley & Tyldesley hosted the eight and final round of the A & T Go-Ride Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Sunday. Once again, handicapping of riders was adopted to cater for the range of age and ability in the line-up.
Tom Whitwam rode with his usual determination and he won all his four races to take the round winner's trophy. Series leader Adam Turnbull dropped his only point in heat 1, to Whitwam. His final tally of 15 points was more than enough to win the overall series.
The handicapping proved to be perfect in heat 5, when Max Evans made up his quarter of a lap handicap on Matt Snell, for both riders to cross the finish line together and the race awarded as a dead heat! Reece Pollitt took a heavy fall in his third ride and bravely carried on, but was understandably below par from then on.

A & T are holding this season's last club practice evening this Tuesday (18 October), 7pm start.
Sheffield v Sandwell
Location: The Graves Tennis & Leisure Centre, Sheffield, Yorkshire

Sheffield entertained Sandwell in the final match of the 2011 season knowing that win would place them in third position overall in the Premier League table. Despite the best efforts of the home side who had been decimated by rider availability and injury, Sandwell cruised to a comfortable victory.
Sheffield promoted local juniors Aiden Owen and Lewis German into the side and with the returning Pete Pearson they battled for every point however with no Angell, Birks or Handke to ease the load a Sheffield win was never on the cards. Ryan Hoyland, Lee Grange and Mark Winwood all provided stiff opposition for the visitors and featured in the best of the racing.
Sandwells Lewis Bates finished off his season with an 18+2 maximum and received great support from all his team mates, Scott Millward, Errol Thaw, Simon Munden and Lee Smith were always in the thick of the action.
Sheffield found themselves 13 points adrift by the interval and had not managed one heat advantage in the first nine races, they rallied briefly at the beginning of the second half taking firstly a 6-4 through Grange & Pearson then a 7-3 through Winwood and Groves, Jamie Brown notched his first win of the day as he began to get back into his stride, but overall the recovery was short lived and by heat 15 the Star's were claiming the inside grids.
A consolation 6-4 to Grange and Hoyland in the final heat brought down the curtain and for Sheffield it was very much a case of 'what might have been' Sandwell rode well and ran out deserved winners.
The combination match was a real old battle and produced some terrific racing, big crashes and controversy, both sides rode it 'like a top of the table clash' and a good sized crowd was well entertained. Sheffield managed to take the win completing the double over the visitors but at the end of the day as one supporter commented "I'd have paid good money to watch that" the racing was the real winner.

Hethersett B v Norwich B
Location: Hethersett Cycle Speedway, Hethersett, Norwich

In a match report that was held over from last week, Hethersett Hawks B and Norwich Stars B met in a South East League Division 2 match at the Memorial Playing Fields, Hethersett on a warm Wednesday evening, and with the track in almost perfect condition, the two sides served up some attractive cycle speedway racing.
With Norwich looking to push on for the runners-up position in the league, it was a stronger all round looking Hethersett side who were setting the pace. Norwich did have some riders with first team experience in their line-up, but silly little mistakes happened when they should not have. This hampered the Norwich side as every time Norwich drew up to Hethersett, out would come a silly mistake or an unexplained fall would occur, giving Hethersett the space to pull away in the next heat.
Not taking anything away from Hethersett, they were the better side on the night, and the Hawks went on to record a fine 90 - 88 victory. This was the first time of Hethersett recording a win over Norwich in eight years in all competitions.
With Premier League racing dominating the day‘s racing all over the country, the fourth and final leg of the South-East Regional Under 14 and Under 10 Fours League were held at The Memorial Playing Fields, Hethersett on Sunday afternoon.
First up was the under 10s, and with Kesgrave A and Ipswich battling it out for the four match points. Ipswich’s British Under 10 and East Anglian Under 10 champion Jack Chaplin was the dominant force throughout the meeting and went on to score 16 points as Ipswich could only finish in second place with 51 points. Kesgrave, who went on to win this round scored 54 points with Harrison Bacon leading the way with 14 points.
Norwich, who entered the competition as a try out for next season finished in third place with 36 points and had Mason Parkins leading the way with 16 points also. Kesgrave B came home in fourth place scoring 34 points with Lewis Brinkhoff top scoring with 12 points and the hosts for today Hethersett had to settle for fifth place scoring 25 points. Tyler Mathews was the Hawks top scorer with nine points.
In the under 14s match, the surprise packet came from Norwich as they went and won the meeting scoring 53 points. Oliver Riley top scored for Norwich with 16 points. Ipswich came second with 52 points and Daniel Knights leading the scoring with 15 points. Kesgrave finished in third place with 42 points and Matt Gifkins heading their scoring with 13 points. Great Blakenham finished in fourth place by scoring 34 points and Lilly Gedge top scored for Blakenham with 11 points.
Finally Hethersett finished in fifth place after scoring 19 points and Katie Adams led the way with seven points. As mentioned earlier, Norwich didn’t score any match points because they had not competed in any previous rounds, but by making the statement of winning the Under 14 Fours, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2012 cycle speedway season in this and many more competitions.
