Poole have successfully retained the coveted British Club Championship which they first won twelve months ago.

While Horspath were defending their Open title at Sheffield and Leicester Ladies held on to their trophy, Poole picked up twenty-four more points from their two competing teams to leave them comfortably ahead of the pack in the seven event series, ironically with Leicester and Horspath occupying the next two positions in the table.

The series began back on May 7th where the Suffolk club Kesgrave just outpaced Poole in the youngest age category for under 10's. Three weeks later, Poole clinched the first of their two Championship wins in the Under 16 final at Newport with Stockport, Ipswich and Horspath contesting the final.

Leicester were the dominant team in the 40+ Vets final on their home circuit on June 4th but Poole made sure of 20 more points for their runners up place when Rob Haywood won his vital run-off against Kesgrave after the teams had finished level. The highest number of competing clubs for any of the events assembled for Round 4 at East Park on July 2nd with 13 clubs eyeing up the Under 19 trophy. Poole were the defending champions in this event and they did not disappoint their South Coast supporters by holding on to their title after a great scrap with East Newport, Horspath and Stockport.

With 90 points out of a possible 100, the Dorset club were almost out of site of the chasing pack in the competition as the Under 13's rolled into Humberside on July 9th where Horspath won their first event ahead of East Newport as Poole had to be content with 14 points for their fifth place. When the Club Championship trophy is officially presented on August 21st, it will be Poole's Under 13 reserve Jay Briggs who receives it as he made the marathon journey to Hull for single race!

By the time the final two BCC events took place at Sheffield on July 30th, Poole were 37 points clear of their nearest rivals in the table and although Leicester and Horspath closed the gap with their Open and Women's victories, the destination of the overall silverware was decided when Pete Young and his Seaview side collected twelve more points to make the title a mathematical certainty and the Girls team added a similar score.

Overall there were 62 entries in the Club Championship this season and 21 clubs contested the event.
