Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co nine riders at the first South-East Grand Prix of the season at Great Blakenham. Their best successes came in the Senior event which was won by Dave Martin with Calvin Grimes second. Carly Grimes took 5th place, beating Tiff Collins in the B Final. Tiff had previously fallen while leading a heat.

Tyler Matthews looked impressive in the Under-8s and finished 7th while sister Jasmin was unlucky to clip the kerb in her u12s C final which cost her a place. Melissa Carter's first visit to a Suffolk track saw her finish 5th in the U16s. Dave Chambers won a heat in style but did not make the Vets A Final. He finished second in the B Final, one place ahead of Mel Perkins.

Dave Martin and Ben Collins were instrumental in Ireland's 90-84 win over Scotland in the Celtic Cup at Harford Park. Martin scored 13 and featured in some good teamwork while Collins scored 10. In a special challenge match Ireland Select (with Phil Adams scoring 15) defeated Scotland Select 99-80. Turning out for the Scotland side were Olly Buxton (11 points) and Calvin Grimes (7).

This Sunday the Hawks start their South-East Division 1 campaign against Ipswich at the Memorial Playing Field (2 p.m.) followed by a Division 2 match.
