Stoke Drop Premier League Bid

News Posted: 6 Feb 2010

News has broken that Stoke Cycle Speedway have withdrawn their application to join the sport's top league at the eleventh hour

The 2009 Nothern league Champions were favourite to join the Premier League and an anouncement was expected tomorrow during the Feb 6th Cycle Speedway Commission meeting at Birmingham confirming the Staffordshire club would be competing the 2010 season alongside the likes of Horspath Hammers and Birmingham Monarchs.

Having recently moved to a brand new track at Etruria Park and having filled the required critieria for a premier club their application seemed a done deal but  a spokeman for the club is reported to have said that they did not believe they were ready to join the league for the 2010 season but would re-apply for 2011 season.

The outcome of this decision means this year's premier league will be contested with 7 teams battling it out for the honours.
