British Cycling has announced a re-design to its Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling, meaning the course has an improved balance between the theory and practical aspects of the programme.

Following feedback from coaches, the new delivery has created a more flexible and practical course that provides a supportive environment for building knowledge and practicing coaching. The new course has a mixture of face-to-face, off-course coaching practice and online revision and assessments.

In addition to the considerable increase in practical coaching opportunities on the course, all learners now receive enhanced support throughout their learning programme in the form of a Coach Mentor.

Every learner is assigned a Coach Mentor, who will guide them through the assessment requirements and reflection on their practice, help them to find further information and offer feedback on draft assessment, as well as supporting their practical coaching delivery through discussion, self-refection and feedback.

Vinny Webb, British Cycling’s coaching and education Manager, said: “The modified Level 2 course means there is now a really good balance between the theory and practical aspects of the programme. We’ve also received excellent feedback on the introduction of a mentor for each learner, which will provide additional support as they aim to develop their coaching skills.”

The updates to the Level 2 course follow a successful launch of a new Level 1 course earlier this year, which is now a combination of online learning and traditional face-to-face delivery.

The Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling is a great way for coaches to develop their coaching practice, following the foundation award achieved at Level 1.
