About our club

Aims
The cycling club aims to provide coach led training and cycling sessions to 8 - 16 year olds. The sessions available, dependent on coach availability are track and mountain bike.
It is fundamental to the club and the running of the sessions, that those involved are capable and happy to fully engage in the activities offered.
As a Junior cycling club, we do also have riders who are committed to racing over the age of 16.
Go-Ride
The Discovery Junior Cycling Club was the first Go-Ride accredited club in Scotland. This ensures the club and its coaches are fully accredited and follow the best practices of the sport.
Bikes
If new riders do not have bikes, the club does have a number of bikes that can be used, but it is recommended, especially for MTB that you bring and use your own bike if you have one.
We aim to run track and mountain bike (MTB) sessions most Saturdays. Through the winter the older more experienced riders are encouraged to join the road bike runs put on.
Clothing
Suitable clothing should always be worn, this will depend on weather conditions as well. Leg wear in particular should be tight fitting and not loose or baggy. Jogging bottoms are a suitable covering, if tailored cycling kit is not available
Cycling track mitts are recommended to protect hands.
If cycling shoes are not available, narrow sports shoes are recommended, especially for track riding, skate shoes although fine for mountain bike flat pedals are too wide for track pedals
Helmets
Cycling helmets must be worn at all times, the club does have some helmets available.
Water bottle
A bottle of water is also recommended, especially in warm or hot weather.
Legacy
If you want to race, we will be there to help and encourage you. If you just want to ride a bike for fun, we will also be there to help and encourage you.
Although the club has not been in existence for very long, 2005, we were all absolutely delighted when Kevin Stewart, pictured with Bradley Wiggins, represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Kevin now a coach with the club, was one of our first members.
There have been numerous Champions come through the club. Do you have the commitment and determination to be the next?
