British Cycling member Richard Stanton has successfully recovered damages in relation to a road traffic accident, which occurred on 1 August 2011, as he was cycling along Clements Hill Road in Studham.

Commuting

As Richard was travelling on his bicycle along Clements Hill Road in Studham towards Whipsnade, Dunstable, the Defendant who was in a Ford Tourneo car emerged from a junction to Richard’s right but he failed to stop and hit the rear of Richard’s bike. The impact caused Richard to be projected approximately 8-10 metres before landing on his right hip.

As a result of the impact Richard was thrown from his bicycle and sustained personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses.

Liability for the accident was admitted by the defendant. Richard received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle.

Richard was represented by Tamsin Keogh in Leigh Day and Co.’s Cycling and Sports Injuries Team and his claim was supported and funded by British Cycling.
