Claim for compensation for damaged property settled by British Cycling on behalf of one of its members

Share |

British Cycling has settled a claim made against him by a third party for property damage following an incident which occurred in May 2011.

Our member rode around a left hand corner when he saw that a van in front had stopped behind cars which were parked on the left to allow a vehicle in the opposite direction to pass. He was unable to slow down to avoid colliding with the stationary van and when he swerved to avoid it, he collided head on with the oncoming car. As a result, the driver of the car made a claim against our member for the cost of repairs to his damaged vehicle.

Liability for the accident was admitted by our member. As part of his Race Silver membership he had the benefit of British Cycling’s third party (public) liability insurance cover. With the support of British Cycling the claim made against him has been settled on his behalf in the sum of £1,989.22 by British Cycling.
