This year British Cycling is supporting the Sustrans Big Pedal, which aims to encourage more kids to cycle, walk or scoot to school.

Running for two weeks (Monday 25 March – Friday 5 April) it tracks the way children actively travel and there are prizes for the most active classes and schools.

Since the campaign launched on Monday over a million journeys have been recorded. Find out more about the Big Pedal, including how you can get involved, here.

British Cycling is passionate about getting kids moving and works with schools across the country to bring cycling into the classroom and out onto the playground. In 2018 we launched HSBC UK Ready Set Ride, which is a free online resource for teachers and parents that breaks the learn to ride process down into three simple steps.

From games that help children to build fundamental movement skills through to balance and pedal bike activities, each step is explained with a fun video that teachers and parents can follow – no training required! HSBC UK Ready Set Ride is designed to take the stress out of teaching your child to ride a bike and make it easier for the whole family to cycle together.

And for children that can already ride a bike there are over 350 Go-Ride clubs across the country. These clubs are perfect for young cyclists as they provide regular opportunities to ride with friendly coaching and even the chance to try out racing against other kids the same age! You can look up your nearest club on the website, or if you are a school there are HSBC UK Go-Ride Coaches who can deliver fun cycle coaching for your pupils.
