The 2017 HSBC UK | National Track Championships will see Great Britain’s most successful female Paralympian in action with Dame Sarah Storey set to compete for the coveted red, white and blue national champions’ jerseys.

Dame Sarah Storey, a 14-time Paralympic gold medallist, following her extraordinary performances at the Paralympics in September, will be aiming to add to her tally of six national titles in able-bodied categories, riding in the individual pursuit.

They will be joined by fellow Olympians and Paralympians including Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Jody Cundy, Megan Giglia, Louis Rolfe, Katy Marchant, Adam Duggleby, Pete Mitchell, Lora Fachie, Corrine Hall, Helen Scott and Sophie Thornhill.

The event also represents a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of Great Britain Cycling Team riders to make their mark with riders such as Ryan Owens, Jack Carlin, Joe Truman, Emily Nelson and Emily Kay all looking to win their first national titles.

With almost 11,000 tickets sold this year’s championships are set to be the best supported event in its long history, with Saturday and Sunday evening’s sessions both sold out. Tickets for remaining sessions are available via Ticketmaster, with British Cycling members able to get 25% off tickets until 23.59 on Friday 13 January.

Dame Sarah Storey said: “I’m really looking forward to riding at this year’s national championships and competing in front of so many passionate cycling fans.

“I’ve always been incredibly proud to stand on the top step of the podium in the red white and blue jersey. I recently got back in to training after a break following the Paralympics so while I’m not sure where my fitness is at I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to compete again this year."

Elinor Barker added: “The quality of competition at the nationals this year will be really high, and this underlines the amount of talent we have in this country. To be able to compete against a field of that quality in front of a full house in Manchester is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Historically the championships have always taken place in September but the decision was made to move the event to January for the first time to position it in the traditional track cycling calendar.

British Cycling’s director of cycling, Jonny Clay said: “We are delighted that so many of the Great Britain Cycling Team’s Olympic and Paralympic heroes will be competing at this year’s HSBC UK | National Track Championships.

“For many of these riders it will be the first time they have competed on home soil since returning from Rio and with over 11,000 tickets sold they can be assured of a great reception and a brilliant atmosphere.

“The event also represents a fantastic opportunity for the fans to see the next generation of cyclists coming through and witness some of the talent that will be challenging for medals in Tokyo 2020 and beyond.”
