The HSBC UK | BMX National Series was back in Braintree after a five-year break and championship women’s series leader Bethany Shriever certainly took advantage of competing on her home track.

The 18-year-old appears to be taking it all in her stride as she laps up the racing, and her confidence seems to be growing in each outing both home and abroad and this weekend was no different.

The first competition to be decided this weekend was the small matter of who would be taking home gold and the coveted British champion's jersey.

Shriever made it look easy as she picked up the national junior women’s jersey, with Blaine Ridge-Davis taking silver.

For the junior men it was Kye Whyte who rode a tight race, edging out Tian Isidore for the gold, while Curtis Manaton cruised to his Championship jersey in the senior men.

Next up it was all eyes on round nine as points mean prizes and this weekend for many it was make or break for the overall series win.

Shriever once again went on to dominate all her motos, making it a clean sweep before cruising out of the gate on the final leaving her rivals to pick up the pieces as she stormed for home to take yet another win. Charlotte Green carried her consistently through to grab second just ahead of Blaine Ridge-Davis.

Round ten and it was business as usual for Shriever as she bossed it round her home track. Another clean sweep in her motos, left her feeling pretty good as she headed for the final.

A fast start into the long first bend, saw Shriever leave her competitors in her wake. Again, the true battle was on for the runner-up spots, with Ridge-Davis coming into her own, reversing her result from the previous day taking second ahead of Green.

With just seven rounds counting towards the overall series win, Shriever has successfully defended her title in a dominant form. The next big goals for this talented rider will be the Euro’s in two weeks’ time followed by the Worlds where we’re sure she’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

Curtis Manaton also dominated his races, taking a clean sweep in all his motos and his finals, despite being pushed all the way by Whyte. The small, tight fast track, proved tricky for a lot of riders.

Manaton took care not to overcook too many jumps, however for Billy Luckhurst, who was sitting pretty in third spot overall came unstuck in his first moto, leaving him down and out. Luckily it’s just the best 7 rounds that count, so Luckhurst, should still be able to maintain his 3rd spot, just narrowly behind Whyte and Manaton.

Meanwhile it could all come down to a nail biting finish in the final round between Whyte and Manaton for the Overall win. On paper Manaton has just edged clear, but its all still to play for.

Bethany Shriever

"I came into this weekend, pretty confident, with this being my home track, I ride here at least twice a week, so of course I know this track off by heart.

“Basically it was a fun weekend, I wanted a bit more race experience under my belt before I head over to the worlds. Taking the double win has underlined my defence of my national series leader title and taking the national junior championship title too, it’s just been an unbelievable weekend of racing.

“It’s all about the Euro’s and the worlds now and with my confidence at an all-time high I’m hoping to do something special to round my season off."

Curtis Manaton

"Day one I had good results in my motos, taking the win in all three. The track is quite small and tight, so you have to concentrate and try not too make too many mistakes, as the speed we are going it’s hard to keep the small jumps smooth.

“I managed to get a good gate in the final, I came out strong and managed to take it to the line, there were a few over jumps but I managed to hold off Kye and take the win.

“Day two another good day with a clean sweep of my motos. So coming into the final I knew it was down to me not to make any mistakes and make sure i get a good start. The start went well as I’d hoped, peddled really hard into the first corner, but kept over jumping.

“I felt Kye come close, so I had to make sure that door was closed. He had to brake hard into that corner which gave me the gap I needed, then it was a case of just keeping smooth until I crossed the line.

“So really happy to get the double this weekend and good preparation for the Euro champs in two weeks’ time.

“I think I’ve managed to do enough now to take the series win, I know it’s pretty tight between my and Kye now, but with just the seven best rounds to count, I think I’m more or less there. I’ll be there at the final rounds just to make sure though."
