British Cycling confirm athletes on 2012/13 Olympic Performance Programmes

British Cycling have confirmed the athletes successful in their application to the 2012/13 Olympic Performance Programmes.

After the Olympic Games, British Cycling's Performance Director Dave Brailsford encouraged the next generation of Olympians with the goal of reaching the highest level in cycling, to make themselves known.

After applications were reviewed, a total of 55 names were listed, with inductions commencing this weekend.

According to Brailsford, those new to the Programmes - which have nutured the talent of athetes including Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas, Shanaze Reade and Annie Last - will experience a unique environment.

“You’re with a bunch of other people of a similar age group, all trying to achieve the same thing and I think there’s a camaraderie that can develop there and there’s a real culture that you can buy into about trying to improve. It’s fun, it’s hard work - it really is hard work - but the rewards can be massive.”

British Cycling will be following the journey of the Performance Programmes as part of the Road to 2016, which continues next week with insight into the induction process.
