We've been following the exploits of British Cycling BMX riders Curtis Manaton and Dan McBride, who are on work experience. An essential element of their overall personal development, the placement helps to ensure that their athlete commitments are balanced with experiences outside cycling. In his third blog, Curtis gets busy with the spanners at Bauer and Millett Specialist Cars in Manchester.

We are now into our third week working at Bauer and Millett and this week we helped to service one of the British Cycling cars. It needed a couple of new parts so let’s hope we did a good job!

I then had a couple of jobs to finish off from last week. I fixed a new crank shaft onto a Corvette which was quite tricky as it needed to be re-threaded and torqued so that any vibration wouldn’t cause it to come loose. This could cause serious damage and would be extremely expensive to fix otherwise.

After this I worked on an Alfa Romeo that wouldn’t start, while Dan worked on a pick-up truck. This was an ex-military truck and Dan was just making sure that it was all working correctly and was roadworthy.

We then helped to change over some number plates for a Fiat 500 before calling it a day.

I am looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us next week.
