Braintree BMX Club Race Report
Peterborough EA BMX Regional Round 5

Round 5 of the East Anglian BMX Summer Regional series took place at Peterborough Pirates BMX Track last weekend. 37 riders from Braintree Bullets BMX Club made the trip to try and gather more valuable points towards their East Anglian rankings and gain those all important British Championships qualification places. With temperatures topping 90 degrees, the weather was hot but the racing was even hotter.

The7 year old boys' class saw Braintree's youngest competitors take to the track. Luke Shriever battled hard all day against local lad Sam Stonebridge and finally settled for second. Club mates Tyler Carter and Morgan Spenner finished sixth and eighth respectively.

In the 8 year old boys Joe Read-Millard and Sydney Allen tore the field apart and battled against each other all day long. In the final Joe took the win with Sydney pushing him all the way in second.

The 9 year old boys was another class where Braintree riders took a strangle hold. Charlie O'Grady made up for a bad start to finish fifth, but Olly Rowe and 8 year old club mate Tom Stokes stole the show taking the top steps of the podium. Joseph Carter, Jake Newton and Cade Moore also represented The Bullets.

Luke Mayes used his power in the 10 year olds to take a well deserved third place and Noah Shriever rounded off his day in fifth. In the 11 year olds Joshua Legrove chased down national champion Ethan Vernon all day and took a fantastic second place with Shane Redgewell just behind him in third.

George Moret dominated the 12 year old boys taking wins in every race to narrow the points gap in the chase for the East Anglian title. Matthew Prior battled hard against much more experienced competition to finish third.
Braintree was represented in the 14 year olds by Lee Golder and Shane Pavitt. Lee narrowly edged out Shane in the final to finish 5th and 6th respectively.

The crowd were treated to a show by Riess Harper in the 16 year olds. Winning every lap all day, he won in fine style. Christopher Potter kept the leaders honest in third and Dexter Addington representing Blake End bike shop; Missing Link Cycles smoothed his way to fourth.

The 17-24 class was a high speed affair with many top national riders hitting the track at warp speeds. In the A final Bradley Watts and Matt Kirk showed their skill taking fourth and fifth for Braintree and look to be in good form for the British Championships in September. Following semi final battles, Olly Cutmore and Julian Allen wound up in the B final and battled together on the last half of the track with Olly just pipping Julian to the line for third and fourth respectively.

Stu Dixon narrowly missed out on the top spot in the Masters class taking a well deserved second place with Gavin Stokes just behind in the third spot. The Veterans class saw Old School rider Jason Bridge battle for fourth place with Paul "Iron Man" Shriever settling for fifth.
The ladies were represented by Dee williams who finished third in the 25+ class. Anja Moret won the 9-10 girls and now leads the regional championships by nearly 100 points with only four rounds to go. Bethany Shriever finished off another good day with third in the 11-12 girls.

The cruiser classes saw Evan Tulloch taking the win n the 9-12 year olds, Jason Clark and Olly Cutmore with first and second in the 17-29 class and Mark Spenner in a spectacular second in the 35-39 year olds.
