Today the cycling world bids farewell to stalwart of the BMX community Tony Luckhurst, who sadly passed away on October 28th.

Tony was an ever-present in the British BMX community, proudly serving the sport as a member of our BMX Commission, manager of the national team and Chair of BMX South, while at the same time always remaining close to the grassroots through his work with local clubs and events.

Over recent years we have seen BMX blossom at all levels, from the numbers of young people riding at community facilities to the medals won at Olympic Games and world championships, with this summer’s successes a shining example.

However, none of that would be possible without the selfless dedication of people like Tony, and our sport owes an enormous debt of gratitude for the commitment, passion and wisdom he shared to set riders across the country on the path to success.

The thoughts of everybody, both at British Cycling and in the wider cycling community, are with Tony’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
