British Cycling is delighted to announce that, for the first time in history, it will be sending six riders to represent the Great Britain Cycling Team at the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup taking place in Hiroshima, Japan, from 6 - 8 April.

World championship silver medalist Alex Coleborn will represent Great Britain, as will Jack Clark, Mark Webb and Ben Wallace. Charlotte Worthington will ride for Great Britain in the women’s category.

Richard King, British Cycling’s BMX Freestyle Park Lead, said: “The past month has been a really exciting time for us and things are moving in a positive direction in terms of targeting Olympic success.

"We had a really productive camp in the USA with some of Britain’s most promising BMXers, and the outcome of who will be selected onto the world class performance programme will be confirmed within the coming weeks.

“The riders we are taking to Hiroshima all have the potential to put in a good performance on their debut for the Great Britain Cycling Team. British Cycling will aim to give the new freestyle squad all the tools to go and win medals while remaining true to the nature of freestyle BMX.

“The course in Hiroshima is different to the more traditional layout that we’re used to at a World Cup event. The riders have seen the course layout and have been spending time adapting their approach to this event.

“All the riders are feeling privileged to be part of this historic squad and I’m confident we will see some great performances to set the tone for the new Great Britain Cycling Team BMX Freestyle Park programme.”
