Colombia hosts its first UCI BMX World Championships from Wednesday 25-Sunday 29 May as the Great Britain Cycling Team face a final test before August’s Rio Olympic Games.

Elite riders Liam Phillips and Kyle Evans are joined by junior Bethany Shriever for Great Britain in Medellin to race on the new Mariana Pajon BMX Track - named after the London Olympic champion.

Challenge races take place on Wednesday to Friday before the junior and elite riders race on Saturday and Sunday for the chance to be crowned a world champion.

Beijing and London Olympian Phillips won the world title in 2013 in New Zealand and would relish the privilege of wearing the rainbow stripes once again.

The 27-year-old from Taunton comes in to the competition on the back of a frustrating quarter-final exit at the Papendal UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, having won at the previous round in Manchester.

But back-to-back world cup crowns make Phillips one of the form riders of the past two years and he is undoubtedly one to watch.

Best world championships result: Winner (2013)

Kyle Evans

Kyle Evans

Kyle Evans made a major breakthrough in Manchester as he claimed his first UCI BMX Supercross World Cup podium.

The 22-year-old crossed the line behind Phillips at the National Cycling Centre but, like Phillips, he had a difficult day in Papendal as he exited in the motos.

Evans has never passed the quarter-final stage at a world championships but his form is as good as ever heading to Colombia.

Best world championships result: Quarter-finals (2014 and 2015)

Bethany Shriever

Bethany Shriever

The 17-year-old announced herself on the scene with a marvellous UCI BMX Supercross World Cup debut in Manchester in April.

Shriever was unfazed against the best in the world - racing against the likes of Caroline Buchanan and Laura Smulders - as she reached the semi-finals and will want to use that experience to her advantage in a junior field.

Best world championships result: First year in junior category
