The 2015 British BMX Series hits its halfway point with rounds five and six at the newly-built track in Cumbernauld, Scotland on 23-24 May.
Having visited Manchester’s National Cycling centre and Kent’s Cyclopark, riders head north for what will be for many a long journey.
But this has not put off riders, with a field of approximately 700 across the categories set to race on Saturday and Sunday.
Elite men
Burnham BMX Club’s Ryan Stack has put some space between himself and second-place Jacob Roberts with an excellent two days in Kent at rounds three and four.
The 19-year-old took second and first-place finishes respectively in Kent and now leads Manchester BMX Club’s Jacob Roberts by 33 points.
Both have attended all four rounds so far with a rider’s top eight scores from 10 counting to their overall score.
At the time of writing, Roberts is not set to attend handing Stack to the chance to build on his lead.
Paddy Sharrock completes the top three, just five points back from Roberts.
Former Great Britain Cycling Team athletes Curtis Manaton (Burnham BMX Club) and Daniel McBride (Decoy BMX Club) will add some stern competition.
Championship women
Peckham Challengers BMX Club enjoy a one-two in the women’s standings.
A second win of the series at round three for Blaine Ridge-Davis, after her victory at the opening round in Manchester, puts the 16-year-old Great Britain Olympic Development Programme rider top with 374 points.
She is closely followed by club mate Katurah Davidson on 358 points and after collecting her first triumph of the series at round four in Kent, her confidence will be high.
The presence of Great Britain Cycling Team rider Charlotte Green will enhance the field. Green exited in the motos at the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Papendal and makes a first appearance in the 2015 series.
Venue
Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Club’s international standard track was opened in July 2014, costing £420,000. Floodlit and hosting events up to and including Pro Circuit and Youth Olympic level, it will now host its first British BMX Series race.
