World champion Liam Phillips took two podium spots at rounds seven and eight of the UEC BMX European League as Great Britain began Rio 2016 Olympic qualification.

Phillips, 25, finished third at Saturday’s round seven and second in Sunday‘s round eight at Klazienaveen, Netherlands.

Kyle Evans also reached the elite men's final in both rounds, finishing sixth and eight respectively.

The two-day meeting was the first to contribute to the UCI Olympic qualification rankings, which run from 31 May 2014 until 30 May 2016.

The rankings will determine how many places each nation receives at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Fellow Briton Tre Whyte reached the 1/8 finals on both days, finishing sixth and fifth respectively.

In the elite women's competition, Charlotte Green had her weekend cut short after falling in the motos on Saturday, the 20-year-old being rested on Sunday as a precuation.

Britain’s athletes will return to action on 13-14 June as the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup continues with round three in Berlin.
